Through this ruling, Métis governments across the Homeland could begin negotiating with the federal government on issues such as benefits, programs, and services.
Métis peoples, along with the other Indigenous peoples of Canada, possess a strong history, identity, and culture and have made proud contributions to the development of this country. It is through the Federal Court of Appeal's Daniels v. Canada decision that existing inequities could begin to be addressed for Métis peoples.
